Game design: Story and Character
This blog will look at some of the characters that I have encountered in films, books and T.V and also the stories which they are in.
I think that in order to catch my imagination there needs to be a level of depth to the character and also the story needs to be interesting otherwise I will pass it by.
I read a book by Robert Ludlum titled ‘The Bourne Identity’; the plot of the story is briefly about a man with amnesia who is being hunted by the government due to the fact that he is a secret agent and the government need to cover up the mission which he was sent on.
I was truly captivated by this story line as you become immersed in Bourne’s world; you are waiting to discover what he remembers next. It is a fast paced book and film which keeps you interested and also makes you care about the main character. I feel that it is important for the design of the book or film to make you care about the character or characters as it is what, for me, keeps me interested.
I need to care about whether this person is going to live or die otherwise some books I will just stop reading and films, well they can become comical. The attention to detail with the character in this story is also what kept me into it, as the further into its story you go the more you learn about the man and where he came from.
Overall this story is an interesting read or watch and one to rival ‘James Bond’, its all of the action without the clichés!
